PhD

Alyssa Williams
Alyssa completed an Honours BSc. in Biological Sciences with a specialization in Life Sciences and a minor in Chemistry from Ontario Tech University. Her research, co-supervised by Prof. N Bassim, focuses on the imaging of biological and biomaterial nano-scale interactions and events using advanced 3D electron microscopy techniques.

Alessandra Merlo
Alessandra received both her B.Eng and M.Eng in Materials Science and Engineering from Politecnico di Torino, Italy, with exchanges in the US and Sweden. Her research, co-supervised by Prof. K Sask, focuses on correlative techniques for the characterization of proteins and cells at biomaterials interface.

Lauren Anderson
Lauren completed her B.Eng at the University of Guelph and M.A.Sc at McMaster University both specialized in biomedical engineering. She then joined GRG group as a cotutelle student with Université Grenoble Alpes, and her work focuses on the application of deep learning models for super-resolution of confocal microscope images of dentin porosity.

Nihal Ahmed
Nihal graduated from the American University in Cairo, Egypt, with a MSc. in Biotechnology, where she developed a great passion for biomaterials. As a PhD candidate, her work focuses on improving imaging techniques for integerated biomaterials to better understand cell-hydrogel interaction within the implant.

Erica Anderson
After graduating from the Translational and Molecular Medicine program at the University of Ottawa, Erica joined GRG with an interest in bone structure and disease. In her current position, Erica is focused on characterizing diseased bone at the microscale by advancing correlative light and electron microscopy platforms.

Kansas Mackay
After graduating from the Mechanical & Biomedical Engineering program at McMaster University, Kansas joined GRG with an interest in real-time visualization techniques. In her current position, Kansas is researching novel liquid and mechanical characterization platforms for advancing dental implants using transmission electron microscopy.

Blanca Keohan
Blanca first joined GRG during her undergraduate degree in the Biomedical and Materials Science & Engineering program at McMaster University where she worked on the Dental Implant and Tissue Irrigation Projects. As a PhD candidate, Blanca will focus on the development of atom probe tomography for biominerals and biomaterial interfaces to better understand biological systems at the atomic scale.
Master's

Ryan Smith
After graduating from the Materials Science and Engineering program at McMaster University, Ryan joined GRG with an interest in biomaterials and bone morphometry. In his current position, Ryan is researching the characterization of bone's microstructure in three-dimensions through micro-computed tomography.

Lingyi Zhuo
Lingyi received a B.Eng in Materials Science and Engineering from McMaster University. With a particular interest in nanoscale characterization techniques, Lingyi is developing fast-scan methodologies for 3D reconstruction in liquid-phase TEM, aiming to reduce sample damage and enable high-resolution imaging of beam sensitive materials.
Undergraduate

Mary England
Mary is going into her final year of McMaster's Materials and Biomedical Engineering program. Her research is centred around hydrogels for bone regeneration and microCT imaging to view and quantify bone growth in mice digits.
